I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Lyman Briggs College at Michigan State University. My research focuses on medicine, science, work and occupations, knowledge, and theory.

Recently, I received the 2013 American Sociological Association Outstanding Dissertation Award, and am now working on a book manuscript related to this project. It develops an argument about the relationship between medical knowledge and medical practices, and its link to the development and decay of authority.

My research has been published in The Journal of Health and Social Behavior, The American Journal of Sociology, and other journals. I received my BA from the University of Wisconsin--Madison, my MPhil from the University of Cambridge, and my MA and PhD from the University of Chicago.
