National Science Foundation Awards BEACON Center $22.5M Grant
Last week the National Science Foundation announced the renewal of the grant given to the BEACON Center for the Study of Evolution in Action. Initially awarded in 2010, the grant's renewal will allow BEACON to continue studying evolutionary processes such as the evolution of diseases and antibiotic resistance for the next five years. News of the $22.5 million grant has been featured in MSU Today and The Detroit News.
Dr. Robert Pennock, HPS professor in Lyman Briggs College, was one of the Principle Investigators of the grant. Dr. Pennock's research under this grant includes the study of intelligent behavior evolution using evolving digital organisms, as well as development and testing of evolution education software and curriculum for responsible conduct of research training.
