2017 LBC Research Symposium

During the week of April 24th, the 11th annual LBC Research Symposium, supported by MSUFCU, took place. Poster sessions and oral presentations took place in Holmes Hall throughout the week. Students spoke on topics ranging from bee populations, to the Flint water crisis, to concussions in football!

On Monday night, 40 groups of students presented at the MSUFCU Poster session. The session was well attended, with hundreds of visitors checking out the students' incredible research! The MSUFCU $1000 Grand Prize Winner was Emily Juzwiak for her poster entitled: "Isolating Mycobacterium smegmatis mutants resistant to a novel Tuberculosis antimicrobial."

Three MSUFCU $250 Honorable Mention Awards went to:

  • Sarah Walsh, "Expression analysis of candidate risk genes for type 2 diabetes in liver tissue of a mouse backcross population"
  • Hayden Stoub and Samantha Leacher, "Double blinded study on the effects of elevated blood glucose on the physiological stress response"
  • Jalpa Patel, Madison Kraus and Shais Raza, "Understanding Students' Perception of Biologists"
