Dear LBC Community Members,
To foster a sense of Spartan Holiday Spirit this winter, members of the MSU community have been invited to create Spartan Snowflakes. I have created one that represents some key facets of Lyman Briggs College:
The MICROSCOPE represents our dedication to inquiry and research in and about science — including the ways we put our own teaching and advising practices "under the microscope" to find better ways of connecting students to success. It also symbolizes our interest in studying technological innovations that support research achievements and change the shape of society.
The BOOK denotes our use of primary sources in the classroom and our emphasis on writing across the curriculum. It calls to mind the essays, articles, chapters, and volumes that our community members publish about their research — and our growing efforts to communicate about science with the general public.
The EARTH stands for the increasingly international, interdisciplinary, and intercultural nature of our college, which draws community members with diverse backgrounds and interests into collaborative teamwork. It also reminds us how the intersections between science and society are impacting the future of our civilizations and our world. Please make your own Briggs Spartan Snowflake and share it online!
With best wishes for happy holidays and a peaceful new year,
